Paved with Gold

Zebracorn, mixed media on canvas, 90×60 inches

My roads, once fabled, paved in gold,
Legends of lives given for the Brooklyn, the Erie, the Hoover.
Their sacrifices, a gift to ease our journey,
These bridges, standing tall, a testament to unity.
The Erie claimed lives, but never chose
By color or creed, it simply built the Empire State.
Today, we live in a salad bar, mixing and sprinkling as we please,
Yet where is the warmth of the melting pot,
The homegrown broth, fresh and hearty, shared with all?
It’s time to embrace the changing shapes,
New faces, heroes in capes,
The magic of the Zebracorn, sturdy cousin of the unicorn,
Its stripes a symbol of strength and unity,
Fighting for a world where all are welcome.
Invite all to celebrate, the good we share,
A friend in need, a hand to care.
My roads still lead to a glorious land,
As good as gold, as days of old stand.

Imagine if Allen Ginsberg and Copilot had a baby?!
